About me

Hello! I'm Liz. I am studying towards a Professional Masters in French and Spanish at the University of Manchester and as part of my degree spent a year in Perpignan, France, where I taught English. I also spent a hot summer at the University of Salamanca and a cold winter at Beijing Normal University. I later spent a year studying between Avignon, France and Vigo, Spain.

I write poetry and short fiction, reviews, interviews and opinion pieces. I have written a Young Adult novel, which I hope to see published some day. I enjoy performing my poetry and have read at Manchester Central Library and the Poetry Society's Poetry Café in London.

In 2014 I was long-listed for Eyewear Publishing's Melita Hume Poetry Prize. In 2016 I won Second Prize in the Poetry Society's Timothy Corsellis Prize with my poem "Barthelasse".

In 2013 I was given the role of Fiction Editor at Miracle Magazine. I was later Head Poetry Editor. In 2016 I founded my own literary magazine, Foxglove Journal, and in 2017 I was asked to also be the new editor for the Word Life section of Now Then Manchester.

You can read more on my "Poetry and creative work" page.

In 2011 I was selected by Cornerhouse (now HOME), Manchester as one of nineteen creatives in North West England to have their talent nurtured by the venue. After the original year-long project I was asked to stay on another year and this time was in a team of three.

Through the projects I helped to organise a film festival, was on the curation team for two major exhibitions, Lost is Found and Four, had my photography showcased and blogged regularly for the venue. I have also been a Digital Reporter for Manchester Literature Festival since 2012.

I write for The Mancunion, Now Then Manchester, Cuckoo Review and Global Graduates and I am a reviewer for The Cadaverine and Structo. You can find all my journalism and reviews here.

I have a music blog and have interviewed musicians The Kennedys, Boomin, Eddi Reader and Amy Ray for various publications.

With Eddi Reader
I have a travel blog, where I share my adventures in France, Spain and beyond, and I kept a blog over the course of my Chinese winter. I have set up blogs for schools, businesses and my college.

My first novel is contemporary YA and incorporates French culture as well as addressing key issues affecting young people today. I am currently working on my second YA novel.

I hope you enjoy this blog, which is a hub for my writing of all kinds. The tabs along the top of the page will take you to different examples of my work. Happy reading!
